Steinberg Cubase VST 5.1 R1 update info & mini review

This is a significant update that is free to registered owners of Steinberg Cubase 5.

Cubase 5.1 is now available free for Mac & PC for all Cubase Versions including VST /32.

Cubase 5.1 has new virtual instruments, new virtual effects and new filters! The new 5.1 version distinguishes itself through optimized program codes for AMD Athlon, Pentium III, IV and AltiVec.

We were very pleasantly suprised to find that the update installation to our Cubase 5 PC Version 5.0 R6 was a breeze. In fact it was completely painless.

Simply launch the installer and select the current Cubase directory. Instead of a brand new installation it updates the current program. All settings seem intact and the program is ready to go with no fuss.

Upon restarting after the install, Cubase launched and worked flawlessly. Even the previously annoying dialog about Orange Vocoder crashing is gone.

First off, I launched the new VSTi, the JX16 which is lush and full sounding. A great new synth! Great presets too!

The cs40 is another new VSTi included with the update. While not as exciting as the JX16 it does give some good sound with a few presets.

Auto Pole VST effect

Also of note is the new Auto Pole Filter, Vocoder and Ring Modulator which are handy VST effects that sound darn good. More effects & instruments are included as well.

Also of significance in the update are optimizations for P 3, P 4 processors and more.

Theres no reason to be squemish about updating to 5.1. It's a no brainer as far as we can tell and it went quite well.
