The Orbit V2 was the first
E-mu product I have ever purchased. It was immediately satisfying with
a wide variety of killer preset sounds and fun beats. The BEAT MODE
is spit loads o' fun!
Immediately after receiving
this monster of a module I was laying down tracks with a new found inspiration
driving me. Finding sounds was easy and some great new ideas were the
result.
The "BEAT MODE"
(hmmmm....) is a very well implemented way to not only play the canned
beats, but better yet, to change and mutilate them on the fly into completely
new sounding variations. I was soon recording the patterns into my sequencer
with no effort. This module had a more unique sounset in my opinion
than Planet Phatt with less cliches. I found it was to great effect
to change the TEMPO to create all new feels. Many of the faster techno
beats rocked at a lower BPM. And the sound just sparkled. In fact I
would say of all the E-mu modules this one seemed to have the cleanest
gain and highest signal output.

The novelty hasn't worn
off yet and I have also found that Orbit V2 is great for layering with
drum beats from other machines, or from midi files. Orbit sounds great
layered with the Korg Electribe R, resulting in some maniacally fat
sounding beats you couldn't roll any other way (ok, exageratted!).
There are some cliche
sounds and beats, but all in all this box offers great flexibility in
creating grooves and has nice unique sounds that will fit well in all
genres of music. Not simply techno. So - if someone has laughed this
box off as strictly a techno tool, laugh to yourself & proove 'em
wrong and do up your own brand of unique sounding music with Orbit V2.
So, if you are looking
to add new sounds to your arsenal, along with beats to inspire songwriting
of all types, the E-mu Orbit V2 9090 is the box you need to have. Be
warned - you'll spend hours playing around in beat mode! Just be ready
and record some of that stuff - or you'll lose it forever. It only takes
a few minutes to set up your sequencer to record the data. E-mu has
