Strange Cargo III - William Orbit - © 1993 Virgin Records. Overall Beat Mode Rating 10
Just got this one about a week and a half ago and this is the 3rd "Strange Cargo" cd in my collection. #2 was always a disappointment compared to #1 for me, although I plan to revisit it again soon too since #3 is so damn good. By far and away #3 is the best "Strange Cargo" William Orbit has delivered. Genres: electronic, techno, ambient, rock, dance, rap, hip hop etc. Hard to describe it as it is very diverse in its collection of tunes. 12 tracks and they are all great!

Ran into this one by accident. Snatched it up for only $7.99 used at Wherehouse. It is a sleeper. Very good find indeed. I've kinda drifted away from his stuff in recent days and have only recently re-bought cds by him that I used to have on vinyl. If you are a fan of early Genesis (with Hackett), and even if you are not, this cd really delivers the goods. Excellent quality and incredible live performances by Steve Hackett of classic Hackett compositions. Progressive, and all instrumental, but very accessible material. If you are familiar with any of his post Genesis early solo material, you will love the experience of hearing the songs live. The performances were recorded 1981 and 1990. Genre: Progressive Rock, Heavy guitar rock. I haven't seen or heard much about him and was suprised to learn on Steve's web site that he is coming out with something new in May, 2000. As for this cd, despite a few moments of slihgt hiss, the quality is quite good for this digital age we live in. And the songs are all fun to listen to. Refreshing to hear it considering some of the more synthy stuff Steve had produced in the later years. The material still holds up. Some of the best written songs ever.

Engines of Creation - Joe Satriani - © 2009 Epic Overall Beat Mode Rating 9
I just got a newsletter via e-mail from Apple and it had a piece on Joe Satriani and his latest project. I just picked the cd after an unsuccessful attempt to find the version with the bonus cd as pimped on Joe's web site. No luck. But so far - so good. The album is far from disappointing and has a few shining moments that can be desribed as Joe at his most prolific. I had heard a while back that Joe was working on an all "Amp Farm" album where he'd record strictly onto a Mac. I guess this is that disc. Very computerish. First Band on the Moon - Cardigans - © 1996 Mercury Overall Beat Mode Rating 8
I bought this one, my first Cardigans CD on the strength of their song included on the Austin Powers "The Spy Who Shagged Me" soundtrack cd. And this one is very good indeed. There is something infectious about this band's sound. I really like it. Especially the stuff that rocks a bit more. Nina says she's not a tomboy??? That's good. She sounds sexy and looks cute too. They have a retro sound that in contrast sounds very modern. "BEEN IT" is a killer track that I have actually heard on the radio. Alt Rock hit on KROQ and such. Not all the cuts are good, but the ones that break through are great! I hope Nina recovers from her surgery thang.
